Three Truths and a Lie

Jeff Salter is a husband, father and grandfather who served for 8 years in the military, both active duty and reserves. He can't remember a time in his life when he didn't write. Before being an author he worked as a  photo-journalist for several years & librarian for nearly 30.

So here is how the game works :) Jeff is going to share 4 things about himself with you :) Three are true and one is an outright lie :) Your job? Try to guess which one is the lie :)

1. The first major purchase (about $200) I ever made with my own hard-earned money -- while a junior in H.S. -- was an electric typewriter.

2. My most serious physical injuries resulted when a horse (I was riding) reared up and fell backwards on TOP of me.

3. In the cockpit of a Canadian cargo plane, I was standing behind the pilot and holding on to his seat-back ... as he landed at the northernmost military installation in North America.

4. I’m extremely self-disciplined and health-conscious ... so I gave up snacking several years ago.

The Overnighter's Secrets by Jeff SalterWhen Beth left suddenly, it broke two hearts ... but she’d had no choice.  Shane, a rugged, ex-Airborne biker, handled it badly ... but so had she.  Three years later and 2000 miles away, she desperately needs her ex-lover’s protection from a violent menace with ‘bad history’ who’ll do anything to reclaim a mysterious suitcase Beth possesses.

Long before Shane acquired that overnighter, a ‘silent movie’ actress kept secrets there ... and now several lives are in jeopardy.  An ambitious female state senate candidate hires a ruthless investigator to eliminate potential campaign ‘problems’ like her dark family secret — a bizarre 1889 murder.

Is Beth’s terrifying ordeal simply because she unwittingly possesses the overnighter’s secrets?  Or is it due to the meth-fueled dumpster-diver’s ‘unfinished business’?

Shane will likely return to California after he resolves this Tennessee ‘situation’ ... so Beth struggles to resist her reawakened feelings.  But before she can sort out their renewed relationship ... Beth is kidnapped!  To rescue her Shane enters an obvious trap in a dilapidated hotel.  Only with Beth’s help can both survive the violent struggle against her kidnappers.

  1. Well, I rose late today ... but I see I haven't missed any activity.

Hey, folks, come on and take a guess which one of those four statements is a fib!

Oh, BTW, my last name is spelled wrong in the first paragraph. Yikes.

  2. I would have to say number 4 is the lie! I don't believe you've given up snacking! Just curtailed it! :)

  3. I guess #4 as the lie, since you seem to have a hankering for M&Ms all the time. :)

  4. I agree, #4 must be an untruth...

  5. Hmm. Five guesses so far and all seem to agree. Of course, I'm not allowed to reveal the true lie until later today ... so you'll have to wait!

  6. Gotta be #4. As much as you beg for M&Ms, brownies, and chocolate of all kinds? There's no way you've given up snacking :D

  7. I'm with the rest of the crowd. Number 4 has to be the lie. :)

  8. I'd go with #4 - because if that's not the lie here, then certain other statements are profoundly exaggerated in the author forum. So you may be health conscious and have cut back on snacks... but gave up??? Nope.

  9. Okay, eight guesses so far ... and everyone gravitates to the one which SEEMS most obvious. Remember, the most effective fibbery is concealed among other misleading statements.

  10. Yeah, but you were complaining the other week about the gluten free snacks being so nasty. NO WAY have you given up snacks!! LOL So what's the prize for the correct guess? M&Ms?

  11. This is easy. the snacking is definitely the lie! Everything is else is just far fetched enough to be true. :)

  12. Not sure what the prize will be, Meg. Opal cooked up this series (3 truths/1 lie) ... so I'm sure she's got something wrapped in bacon to give away to the winners. LOL

  14. Okay, okay. As everybody properly guessed, # 4 is the lie --- I have NOT given up snacks! [However, I do exercise 3 times a week at the local 'Y'].
As I mentioned elsewhere, I thought my three TRUTHS would be pretty unbelievable.
Have you ever heard of a H.S. junior using his OWN hard-earned money (I only earned about $1 per hour back then) to buy an electric typewriter? About $200 in 1967 would be probably over $1000 now.
I've told my (true) horse story before, and never heard of anybody else having the horse rear back and fall on top of the rider, spread-eagled.
Y'all prob. read my story about the cargo plane flight recently on a blog.

  15. Hey, I saved up my $1.25/hour (or was it $1.75) for a 10-speed bike, which had to be about $150, back in high school. Went everywhere on that thing. Took my own snacks, too. ;-D

    1. Then you, Meg, know the value of a dollar (as I do). I fear the newest generations will reach majority without ever having 'earned' a buck.
I figure my elec. t/w required approx. 200 hours of work to earn the money for it. And that was in a feed & seed store with no air-conditioning in hot, humid Louisiana summers.
